It is tremendously exciting to watch middle and high school students eagerly demonstrating their engineering devices or showing off their lab knowledge. The best way to get a close-up view of that is to volunteer at our regional and state tournaments!
In order to provide quality tournaments, VASO is always seeking volunteers. Some of the help we need is:
- People with expertise in event areas to write tests
- People to help proctor and grade tests
- People to run stopwatches and measure results in engineering events
- Hospitality volunteers
VASO is committed to seeking volunteers outside of those provided by team to write and run events. We have expanded our pool of outside volunteers and continue to seek more. If this is something you can help with or would like to know more about, please contact us.
If you are a Science Olympiad alum in college, we are particularly interested in keeping you involved with VA Science Olympiad (whether you did SO here or in another state). Please visit our alumni page and let us know who you are.
Each school that sends teams to tournaments is required to provide volunteers for the tournaments. Two volunteers are required for the first team from a school and one more volunteer is required for each additional team a school signs up. In addition, each school is asked to submit the names of events for which the coach or team parents may be able to provide a tournament test. If asked to run an event at a tournament, the people used to run that event will count toward the team volunteer requirement. More information will come with team registration.
